Easy Listening. Easy listening is a popular music genre and radio format that was most popular during the 1950s to the 1970s. It is related to middle-of-the-road music and encompasses recordings of hit songs, non-rock vocals and covers of selected popular rock songs.
Easy listening music is often confused with lounge music, but while it was popular in some of the same venues it was meant to be listened to for enjoyment rather than as background sound.
Let’s play what I call easy listening. All genres have it. So play your favorites. Below are a few of mine.
It’s been a while since I posted here, I apologize to the thousands who come here looking for music, feel good stories and receipies. Let’s start October with music.
Play anything that you wish. Doesn’t matter if it’s rock, soul, top forty, etc.
There are a few ways we define the perfect summer song: It can be about summer, it can be released in the summer, or, in the case of some tracks on this list, it can define an entire summer with its impact and airplay.
It’s been a while. Songs about time. I think any song about time will do for this rainy morning. Time can be in the title, song, or the group or artist’s name.
Isn’t it fascinating to think about the concept of time? It’s unique in the sense that all of us have the same amount of time in a day. But as you know all too well, some people just seem to know how to make better use of it than others. At times, it feels like you need more than 24 hours to get everything done. And during those fleeting moments when you clear your mind, you realize that you’re in an endless race against time.
It’s Friday so let’s start the weekend with music.
Weekends are a time to unwind, relax and have fun after a long week of work or school. Whether you prefer to party all night, catch up on your favorite TV shows, or spend time with loved ones, there’s no denying that the weekend is a much-needed break for many. Music has always been a great companion to any weekend activity, setting the tone for the mood and making the experience even more enjoyable.
Here in the heartland (Midwest) I’m up thinking about what to do this weekend. I know better to not ask my wife. Work around the house. So let’s play some songs that get you into that weekend mood.
Here in the Heartland we dig all types of music.
And for the folks who are from Cleveland here’s another one from MSB.
Location, Location, Location. Songs about Location.
This should be an easy one. Let’s do songs about Location. Can be a street or a city. Can be in the artists name or in a song, or a title of a song.
Have you ever thought about how many songs have the names of streets or cities in the song or title?
Here’s one for my special friend out in California.
Canadian rocker Tom Cochrane struck gold with his hit song “Life is a Highway.” This ’90s anthem taps into the freedom and possibility of an open road journey, speaking for the wanderlust of many listeners.
Dance till you drop. We have had foot moving music, but here you let the whole body go.
PLAY ANY SONG THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH DANCING.
It can be in the title, song, or artists name. When the music plays, your body sways to the beat! Since the dawn of human civilization music and dance have complemented each other. Dance is a physical way of expressing the feelings and emotions music stirs. So, it should come as no surprise that so many songs from all genres have had the word “dance” in their titles.
No music fan in their right mind would think of traveling these days without a suitable playlist. Airplane travel lends itself especially well to a thematic mix, since pop music history is so loaded with great flight songs.
The unofficial beginning of Summer. In the USA Memorial day has always been the unofficial beginning of Summer. So let’s play songs about summer, bands that have summer in their name, orsongs that have summer in the title.
Songs from the late 60’s and 70’s are my favorites. What about you? OK so I’m old. The 60’s and 70’s was the golden age for me. Be it Classic, Pop, or Soul.
But you can play any era you feel has the best music. Be it the 50’s, 80’s,90’s todays music. Play it.
Male Duets. It’s the guys turn. This should be an easy one. Peter and Gordon, Chad and Jeremy, Righteous Brothers, McCartney &Jackson, and the list goes on and on.
“It Takes Two.” Indeed, a pairing of great talents can often lead to truly memorable (and highly profitable) results. Whether it’s a romantic ballad, a tandem melody, or complex, counterpart harmonies, the most successful duets find both artists supporting one another – allowing both parties to excel. From Motown to metal and pop to country,
Raspberries Frontman, ‘All By Myself’ Singer, Eric Carmen Dead at 74.
Singer Eric Carmen, who was first known in the early 1970s as the frontman of the Raspberries, and later achieved solo success with hits like “All By Myself” and “Hungry Eyes,” has died at the age of 74.
“It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen,” the singer’s wife, Amy Carmen, wrote on his website. “Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend.”
“It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy,” she added. “Please respect the family’s privacy as we mourn our enormous loss.”
Carmen’s wife concluded with “Love Is All That Matters…Faithful and Forever,” a callback to her husband’s song, “Love Is All That Matters,” from his 1977 solo album “Boats Against the Current.”
The singer’s cause of death and exact date of death has not yet been revealed.
In his early years, Carmen — who was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio — had his first big hit, “Go All the Way,” with the Raspberries after the band signed its first recording contract in 1971 with Capitol Records.
The song reached No. 5 on the Billboard singles charts.

“Critics hailed the band’s unique twist on Beatlesque power-pop, citing Carmen as a pop visionary,” Cleveland.com reported.
“Bruce Springsteen and Courtney Love both are fans of the band’s music. Kiss, Cheap Trick, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Guns N’ Roses cite them as an influence,” the outlet added.
The Raspberries had a few more hits after that, such as “I Wanna Be With You” and “Let’s Pretend,” before eventually breaking up in 1975.
But others may say that Carmen achieved greater success as a solo artist, with hits like, “All by Myself,” “Almost Paradise (Love Theme From Footloose),” and “Hungry Eyes,” among others.

Notably, singer Celine Dion covered “All by Myself” on her 1996 album, “Falling Into You.”
While attending college at John Carroll University in the late 1960s, Carmen joined a band called Cyrus Erie, whose guitarist, Wally Bryson, had been playing with Jim Bonfanti and Dave Smalley in one of Cleveland’s most popular bands, the Choir, which scored a national hit in 1967 with the song, “It’s Cold Outside.”
After Cyrus Erie and the Choir ended, Carmen, Bryson, Bonfanti, and Smalley got together and created the Raspberries.
Carmen’s first solo album in 1975 had three Top 40 singles. The singer went on to release another three solo albums, achieving one more hit in 1978, “Change of Heart.” In 1984, his song, “Almost Paradise,” reached No. 7 on the Billboard charts after it was covered by Mike Reno and Ann Wilson for the film, Footloose.
In 1987, Carmen reached No. 4 with his song, “Hungry Eyes,” which he had written for the film, Dirty Dancing. The singer made it to the Top 40 carts again a year later, with his song, “Make Me Lose Control,” which peaked at No. 3.
Carmen lived in Los Angeles for a time, but eventually moved back to Cleveland in the mid-1990s, “and basically went quiet for several years,” Cleveland.com reported.
At the end of 2004, the Raspberries got back together, and the band played a few shows in Cleveland, before performing eight concerts around the United States in 2005.
In 2014, the movie Guardians of the Galaxy gave the Raspberries another moment in the spotlight when it included “Go All The Way” in the film’s soundtrack.
